Many festivals will allow the submission of a work in progress, but most also do not approve resubmissions. So think carefully about whether it is worth submitting such a version. Sometimes, it is better to wait a year and submit a finished version.
Usually a synopsis (sometimes two – short and long), stills, biography, poster, director’s statement, and list of credits. As for the submitted screener link, it is recommended to work with a password-protected link.
Yes. A good trailer helps the film stand out and may attract the attention of the programmers. If the budget is exhausted, a short scene from the film can be cut out, which can be a trailer.
It is customary to say that the end/beginning of the year is a good time to start, but at any point in the year, there will be major festivals that accept submissions, so any time is a good time to start.
Some of the major A-category festivals require an international premiere (a few even require a world premiere). In principle, every festival has its own requirements and preferences, but even a festival that does not require a premiere will still prefer it. So, at the beginning of the distribution process, think carefully about the goal, and what is the right course of action to reach it.
